Once the capital of Brittany, Nantes was transferred to the Pays de la Loire in 1962 and is France's sixth largest city and an important university town, with good museums, parks and lots of places to eat and drink out.  

Nantes, one of France's regional capitals, is a major seaport near the mouth of the Loire River in Northwest France.

Now home to high-tech industries, it was in Nantes in 1598 that Henri IV signed the best-known Edict of Nantes, ensuring the civil rights and freedom of French Protestants, only to have it revoked by Louis XIV.
